Nancy, a faithful reader of my blog, often uses "Treasure Tuesday" on her blog (click here to go check out Nancy's Nook).  Of course, she didn't do that today, but since I got a treasure in the mail yesterday, I decided to borrow her "Treasure Tuesday" label.

One of my ongoing projects is putting together into a shareable format all the bits of lore, photographs, letters, and documents that have been passed down from my ancestors.

Yesterday, one of my cousins sent me a copy of my great-great grandfather's journals that have been typed up and bound into a single book.  Here are photos of my great-great granparents:

The actual journals, twelve in all, are scattered throughout the family.  I have four of them.

They are extremely fragile with age.  When I try to turn the pages, the paper crumbles into dust between my fingertips.  I have wanted to read them, but just can't risk destroying them. Here are a couple photo's of the journals opened.

And here's a photo of the typed up version:

It is 355 pages long, and I can't wait to read it.  As any good reader should do, I took a peek at both the first and last pages.  Here's a photo of those pages.  I think you may be able to read the words if you click on the photo's.

Sorry about the shadowed photographs.  the lighting is horrid today with the cloud cover, and I don't have time to edit photo's today because I want to read every single word in this treasure.  But, hey, it's just a blog post.

So, what about you?

Do you have any treasures?

What are your favorite things?

What projects are you working on this year?

Love your treasures...and what a treasure!

I want to finish a first time quilt I started in a class. I can't seem to find the time and I think I'm scared of it. LOL

Alisa,

I wanted to learn to quilt, but was stymied by both the start up cost and the math required to do so.

You are welcome, Nancy, and thanks for letting me "borrow" your Treasure Tuesday. I tried to come up with my own title, but yours was so perfect (and I knew you wouldn't care). I hope you pick up a few readers! That would be cool - you have a fun blog.

Travis, I was very fortunate to be the one to inherit all the family history stuff. It's been quite a chore to dig through it all, figure out who is in the photographs, and all. But, my great-grandmother provided the family with a book of family lore that has been an invaluable aid to the process.

One tip - if you are interested in doing something with your family history, take the tie to visit and collect as many stories as you can from those still living. Ask tons of questions and find out what they know. then get a membership with Ancestry.com - that is a wonderful site. I've connected with relatives I didn't know and found so much information about my family.
